Bhajan Shiromani Bhakta Raj Acharya passes away

Nepali music industry mourns the loss of one of its greatest legends, Bhajan Shiromani Bhakta Raj Acharya, who passed away on Monday. He was 82. The iconic singer and music composer, popularly known as Bhajan Shiromani, passed away while being rushed to Mediciti Hospital in Lalitpur for medical treatment.

Among his notable bhajans are timeless classics such as “Tan Man Bachanle,” “Ram Yahi Chhan,” and “Rahenachha Mero Kohi Bhagawan,” each resonating deeply with listeners across generations. Acharya has lent his voice to around 400 songs. Some of his popular numbers include ‘Hajar Sapana Haruko’, ‘Jati Chot Dinchhau’ and ‘Mutu Jalerahechha’.

His body will be kept at the Nepal Academy of Music and Drama on Tuesday for last respects.

Acharya, who was born in Dhankuta in 1943, was known as Bhajan Shiromani for his melodious devotional songs. He had lost his voice after an accident in 1990.
